The establishment of a Women’s Development Bank (WDB), to help Ghanaian women in their quest to improve their businesses and trade, is a well-thought-through policy by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the running mate of John Mahama in the 2024 Presidential election, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku- Agyemang, has disclosed

She said the policy, intended to be implemented when the party comes into office in January 2025, would largely improve the well-being and conditions of the majority of Ghanaian women.

She said Ghanaian women entrepreneurs and traders had always faced the challenges of raising capital to enhance and boost their businesses and the Women’s Development Bank had been envisaged to assist them to overcome such bottlenecks.

Madina market

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said this when she toured the Madina Market in Accra last Saturday to interact with the market women, and in particular, those women whose stalls and stores were burnt during the recent fire outbreak at the market.

As a gesture, she presented an amount of GH¢50,000  to the victims on behalf of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Madina, Francis Xavier Sosu.

She maintained that the terms and conditions of traditional banks, including the issue of collateral and equity, had remained a stumbling block to women entrepreneurs over the years which the bank would take a critical look at in order to enable more women to access the facility.

She said the NDC had the welfare and well-being of all Ghanaians at heart, especially the poor and downtrodden, including women and children, with an open-door policy to welcome all into its fold and called on all Ghanaians to come on board the NDC bandwagon to help rescue the nation from the current abyss.

The NDC running mate also used the visit to inaugurate the NDC Young Ladies Association described as an affiliate of the Women’s Wing of the party.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Madina, Francis Xavier Sosu, appealed to the electorate to be discerning when they went to the polls on December 2, 2024, in order to help alleviate the plight of the country and its citizens from the current hardship and difficulties.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang assured the market women who lost their wares and shops during the recent fire outbreak at the Madina Market and were yet to receive relief that efforts had been made to attend to them all in due course.
